Undercutting Fireplace Hearths for Flooring
When finishing to fire-place hearths, stone walls and other irregular shaped obstacles with a hard surface floor, the best way to achieve a clean good-looking finish is to under-cut or remove a shallow, narrow section of material from the bottom.

This photo shows a special undercut saw manufactured by Crain Cutter Company. It's model #820 and comes equipped with a carbide tipped saw blade for cutting wood. When equipped with the diamond blade #822 this saw will cut masonry, ceramic tile and stone. This saw also has a vacuum port that while not 100% effective- when used in conjunction with a good quality vacuum will collect the majority of dust created during the cutting process.
